'Large-scale power outage in France and Europe

At around 10.15 pm, over 5 million French subscribers living in a large number of metropolitan “départements” were deprived of electricity between 30 and 75 min depending on the sector affected following an incident on the German very high voltage network. According to the electricity transmission system operator, unexpected electricity fluxes during the scheduled shutdown of two 400 KV lines at around 9.50 pm would have caused knock-on effect overloads disabling a large number of power lines within the European network. Cut in two at 10.13 pm by the North Adriatic Sea, the European network was completely imbalanced with excess production in the Eastern section and consumption much higher than production in the Western section, including France.

Such imbalances had to be corrected within seconds of their occurrence to prevent complete collapse of the European electricity system or “black-out”. For this purpose, safety plcs interrupted a proportion of the consumption in France, as these automatic power cuts contributed to re-establishing the balance; startup upon the relevant system operator’s request for 5,000 MW of production limited the duration of the interruption of distribution of electricity in France. Similar power cuts occurred in all Western European countries.

Apart from people stuck in lifts and the delay of around ten trains, no major incidents were subsequently signalled. Around one hundred thousand inhabitants in North Rhine-Westphalia were also deprived of electricity for over 1 hour, as well as several Italian regions. The sudden drop in temperature may also have contributed to this electrical malfunction.'

Affected Areas

Spain: Widespread disruptions across major urban centers, including Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, and Valencia.

Portugal: Total loss of power, heavily impacting Lisbon and Porto.

France: Brief, minor outages occurred in southwestern areas close to the Spanish border.

Impact on Infrastructure

Transportation: Major metro and train systems in Madrid, Barcelona, and Lisbon were abruptly shut down. Major airports, including Madrid-Barajas and Humberto Delgado, faced significant delays.

Communications: Cellular and internet networks went down across large swaths of both countries, and emergency hotlines were temporarily overwhelmed.

Economy: Businesses, retail, and public services were plunged into darkness, bringing daily life and commercial activity to a halt.'

The above reports clearly show that power outage is a clear risk to households and commercial entities not only in developing nations but in some of the most advanced nations even on the Continent of Europe.

The purpose of this recommendation is to recommend another pillar for developing an effective and functional alternative economy. That is fuel cell electrical power storage technology.

This recommendation requires that over a period of months and years perhaps within a ten year period, that an entire nation or nations can have every household and commercial entity have fuel cell electrical power storage devices.

For the solution to be an effective alternative economy solution it needs to synergise seamlessly with the existing or regular economy.

For instance the power outage spoken of immediately above was a surprise to many people causing people to sleep in train stations and other locations. What this means is that it is too late to solve this situation when there is an electrical power outage. It needs to be solved prior to that. That is why the solution needs to be integrated to the regular economy.

Fuel cells are able to store a much higher amount of electrical power than regular electrical batteries.

If the fuel cells are designed specifically to store considerable volumes of electrical power for household and or commercial usage they can be installed in households, enterprises and offices and provide electrical power whenever that is necessary.

In the event of a natural disaster, sabotage or some other practical challenge the power may be shutdown for longer than a few hours as has occurred in such locations in history. Therefore to ensure that such locations are able to operate normally and effectively, they should already have fuel cell electrical power storage devices installed in the households and offices so that they can continue to use electricity until the power is restored. If they do not have any power outage, the devices remain functional. It is my recommendation that these devices should have a life span of no less than 10 to 30 years depending on the usage specifications and size. These devices should be resistant to voltage fluctuations and should be housed in such a material and manner that they are resistant to electromagnetic wave shocks that is electromagnetic pulse and other dangers. 

It is also important that these devices are as compact as feasible which the fuel cell technology makes feasible. It is also important that they can be carried from one location to another if necessary very easily that is as easily as unplugging the device and putting it into a vechicle and plugging it again at a safer destination in the situation of a natural disaster for instance.

It is my opinion that each household should be able to store no less than 30 days usage of electrical power in its fuel cell electrical power device. It is my strong opinion that those households that can afford the purchase of enough fuel cell electrical power storage devices should build up a storage capacity of no less than 100 days of electrical power based on their average daily electrical power consumption. If this is achieved it means that the legal government will have anywhere from 30 days to 100 days to resolve any power outage challenge which for a considerable number of nations is feasible.

To develop the alternative economy companies can sell these devices but also rent them out as well when fully charged. What this means is that those who don't have could still get charged devices during an emergency but this would not be the majority because there needs to be a seamless leveraging of the regular economy to the alternative economy and back and forth. It works best if the people make the purchases over time and integrate these devices with the home and or office power solutions. 

One hundred days, that is 100 days is not the limit and those that can afford to have electrical power storage for a longer period of time such as one year should be encouraged to do that.

If the electrical power supply company is damaged or destroyed for instance this would be ideal until repairs are made and electrical power is restored. These devices can be charged by each other that is by another fuel cell electrical power storage device, by solar power, by mains electrical power, by electrical generator and other electrical power generation devices.

A person may connect a fuel cell electrical storage device in the boot of a car which charges some amount every time the car is driven. After some weeks or months it may get completely charged causing no disadvantage to the owner of the vehicle and available for use in the home or in a new location.

The continuous provision of electricity to people especially in times of challenges is very important to maintain, Rule of Law, civility and tranquility and ensure the prevention of increased challenges.

This is also recommended to the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the Federal Republic of Germany on the Continent of Europe. 

Those recommended may choose to cooperate with each other to implement this recommendation or implement this on their own as they desire. 

Those recommended can develop this solution for export to other nations and markets to earn revenues from the manufacture and sales of fuel cell electrical power storage devices.
