ELECTRONIC SCREEN CRAWLER

Screen crawlers are very common with televisions which show news items usually at the bottom of the screen.

The Electronic Screen Crawler is basically an application or built-in capability of an electronic and or digital device to display different types of information on the phone using the crawler technique. The purpose of this is to have information scrolling across the screen basically throughout the day or as set by the user.

This can be different types of information, such as:

  • News feeds
  • Messages
  • Money alerts
  • Appointments
  • Reminders
  • And others

Therefore, this is just scrolling continuously, and the user may not take note of it or glance from time to time. If something is interesting or important, the users can click on it, and it will open or click on it to view later.

This can have some form of demarcation to distinguish between the sensitivity of the items. This could be a symbol or an icon or a shape or even a solid background or light background. All these could be used.

The application allows the user to programme what types of information are high priority and what are not so important. For very important information, it may even make a short sound.

This is constant on the screen, perhaps at the top once it is working unless deactivated using the app.

Users can modify the settings whenever that is convenient for them to adjust the crawler functionality.

Most times people think and have seconds or minutes of respite. It is during these periods, which could be several times in a few minutes, that a glance at the crawler would likely occur providing information that the person may not have the time to scroll through social media feeds or messages at times depending, of course, on volumes of such.

It is my opinion that the Electronic Screen Crawler will become very accepted as a fundamental way of accessing social media feeds and other phone information. Just going through feeds alone is not convenient for long periods of time and short periods of time provide less information because of limited news and information feed viewing. Therefore, this model creates custom feeds which are the specific feeds on by one that the user wants to see and has saved to see.

Why does this matter?

When many people have a social media account, it broadly asks people to choose categories of news feeds. This could be entertainment, sports, ballet dancing, freestyle rapping or cooking or something else. This brings all sorts of information which the user doesn't want even though the category is selected. However, with the Electronic Screen Crawler, the user may tap on information once in 10 minutes or even less. This would give 6 times in one hour, for instance. If the user uses his or her phone for 3 hours in a day total or at intervals over a three hour period in total, for instance, this could give 18 different information in the customised information reports. So, therefore, the user can go through those 18 information messages or reports while relaxing, on the way home from work, while eating, while in the toilet or even while waiting to pick up clothes from the laundry or whilst doing something else. That means that the information feed of 18 messages are selected specifically by the user for the user to peruse. This information is also ranked according to most important to least important, which is selected when saving a news or information item. What makes this even more unique is that it can achieve this for information from multiple social media applications as well as other phone information, including phone and data balance, expiry of television fees, date for payment of school fees, appointments and more. This organises the entire information into a single customised pool of information for user consumption. This method makes information much more targeted and convenient for the user.

The functionality has to be fast and have capabilities of fast-forward and rewind as well as reduce and increase the speed of information display. In addition, selecting information to save should be feasible in a maximum of 3 seconds for an information item, including selecting a sensitivity level.

Phone information such as battery level and estimated battery duration left will also be made available.
